CNC Machine & Control Experience: What Brand Names Actually Tell You

A résumé that says Haas, FANUC, Mazak, Okuma, Makino, or DMG MORI is only the beginning. Manufacturers still need to identify what the person actually owned on that platform.

Brand Exposure Is Not Capability

Two machinists can both list the same control and have completely different capability. One may have loaded parts and made wear-offset adjustments. Another may have built setups, touched off tools, established work coordinates, edited programs, proved first articles, and troubleshot the process. The screen should uncover responsibility, not just brand recognition.

Ask These Five Follow-Ups for Any Machine or Control

  • What did you set up? Part family, axes, workholding, tooling, tolerance, material, and production type.
  • What did you do at the control? Tool data, work offsets, edits, probing, macros, conversational programming, recovery, alarms, or prove-out.
  • What programming was yours? Full CAM, conversational, G-code at the control, edits only, or no programming responsibility.
  • How did you prove the first part? Datum strategy, inspection tools, CMM interaction, compensation, and correction logic.
  • What went wrong? A real troubleshooting story reveals more than a list of brands.

How Titan Uses Machine & Control Information

Titan treats machine/control experience as one layer of the match. Screening also considers setup responsibility, tooling, workholding, process complexity, programming, inspection, materials, production environment, and the independence expected on assignment.

Match the Screen to the Shop

A control match may matter heavily when a person must recover alarms, edit programs, use probing cycles, or work independently with minimal onboarding. It may matter less when the critical gap is process knowledge, toolmaking, metrology, or a well-documented repetitive setup. The requirement should come from the work.
